D. H. Lawrence - one of the
greatest figures in 20th-century
English literature – and a friend is
a subject of our next short analysis.
She is positioned closer to the camera, interested.
Her face look friendly, calm and full of life. He, on the
other hand, shelled within himself, his eyes burried deep
in his face, absorbed in his own deep thoughts. There is a feeling that he his detached from the world and from the women beside him. His body is shinked and bent.
Her face is full with life and expression. Both of them lean slightly towards each other. She is leaning from top to bottom, and he is leaning from bottom to top, which can teach us of staus and domminance between them. She – ofcource – seems to be stronger and the leading person in these relationship.
This statement is further reenforced when one studies their hands positioning. His hands are "dropped down" lifeless, her hands are very high, holding the cane. Both her hands position and the cane create the impression confident self assured person, one that Lawrence is under her patronage. They are positioned close to each other but there is no physical touch between them. She is busy with her cane demonstrating power and domminance, where he moves his left arm away from her slightly as if uncomfortable with her closeness.
